6 New Reasons to Visit Orlando

Updated: Dec 7, 2018

So you've been to Orlando & Florida before and done all the parks and attractions. It may well have been a few years ago or more recently and you are thinking there is no point in going back just yet.

Well you would be wrong because Orlando is one of those destinations that is constantly evolving and changing and adding new hotels and new attractions to entice you back again to the 'happiest place on earth'. Orlando has plenty to offer for newcomers and old hands alike when it comes to a holiday in the USA. Exciting things planned for 2019 include the new Star Wars land at Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World® as well as the new Surfside Inn Hotel at Universal Orlando Resort™ so watch out for further information on these as we get closer to opening.

There are plenty of reasons to go back now though as 2018 has been a busy year for Orlando with additions to the fun of Florida. Here are 6 new attractions/hotels that have opened this year that may entice you to visit again or for the 1st time!

1. Universal's Aventura Hotel

This brand new 3* value hotel opened in August 2018 as is a great addition to the offering of Universal Orlando Resort. It is the sixth hotel to open as part of this resort and sits at the southern end of the waterway with direct access by water taxi to the theme parks. Being just a 15 minute walk away as well it is a great location (via Loews Sapphire Falls). It is ultra high tech and modern design with the jewel being the 17th floor rooftop bar and brasserie. Stunning views across Orlando and the parks its a great place for cocktails!

2. Drive Shack

This unique entertainment destination combines great food and drink outlets with the most advanced golf games and technology in Florida! Situated in Lake Nona's vibrant Sports & Performance district it opened in the spring of 2018. The 3 storey complex features indoor & outdoor entertainment including 90 hitting bays and a Free Play Game Lounge with some classic games in. Great for the golf family enthusiasts with a twist of fun.

3. Disney's Coronado Springs Resort

Essentially a convention hotel but it does appeal to the leisure visitor too, it is expanding over the next few months by adding new dining options, resort rooms and networking spaces. It is the largest of the 6 convention hotels of Walt Disney World Resort.

4. Voodoo Doughnut

WOW, what can we say about this other than you have to try the mango flavour one as its delicious! Opened at Universal CityWalk® in March 2018 it offers 51 varieties of the sweet treat. Be prepared to salivate as the queues are quite long as you wait to taste but the eclectic decor will take your mind off the prize whilst you are waiting. It's a great addition to the food offering of Universal CityWalk though as you take time out from the rides.

5. Orlando StarFlyerNow I have to admit, you will never get me to go on this new attraction on International Drive as it is way to scary for me! It is however an amazing attraction for evening entertainment if you haven't had enough during the day in the parks. Opened in June 2018 and is next to the ICON 360 complex on I-Drive its stands over 400 feet tall. It seats 24 riders in double seats and spins as it rises between 40-60 miles an hour. You have to be a serious adrenaline junkie to get on it I reckon but it is proving to be very popular for a nighttime ride with views across Orlando. Watch the video below that I took whilst my feet were firmly on the ground.

6. The Grove Resort & SpaOpened earlier this year, the new hotel offers 878 two & three bedroom residential style suites with full kitchens, washers and dryers and provide all the comforts of home. Located just west of the Disney parks it is great for families that want a little bit of extra space with communal facilities. You will need a rental car if you stay out here though to make the most of what Orlando has to offer.

So that is our quick round up of why you should visit Orlando again as the new attractions and hotels that have opened in 2018 ensure that you will always have a new experience when visiting. 2019 promises to be even better so if you haven't already booked your Orlando holiday yet I would do soon to get the best available accommodation.
